Pick Mattock Hoe
What it is
A pick mattock is a heavy digging tool with a pick point on one side of the head and a broad chopping blade on the other, mounted on a long handle.
Typical uses
It is used to break hard or stony ground, dig trenches, cut through roots and clear land for planting where a normal hoe would bounce off.
When you enquire
Tell us the type of ground you dig, whether rocky, clay or rooty, and the handle length you want.
Care and handling
Check that the head sits tight on the handle before each job and replace a cracked handle. Keep the edges reasonably sharp, wear boots and eye protection, and clear bystanders before swinging.
