Lopper

What it is

A lopper is a long-handled pruning tool with a pair of blades at the end, made for cutting branches that are too thick or too high for ordinary hand shears. The long arms give extra leverage.

Typical uses

It is used to prune fruit trees, shrubs and hedges, to clear overgrown branches and to cut back thick woody stems without climbing a ladder.

When you enquire

Tell us the thickest branch you usually cut and the handle length you prefer.

Care and handling

Wipe the blades clean after cutting, especially after sappy or diseased wood, and oil the pivot and blade lightly. Keep the edge sharp, tighten the pivot bolt when it loosens, and cut only branches within the tool’s capacity.
